One-Quarter of Employees Tap Retirement Savings for Emergencies, per Survey

A new SecureSave survey found that financial stress remains a major challenge for U.S. workers, with more than half reporting moderate to high stress levels and many lacking emergency savings, contributing to retirement plan leakage and difficulty covering essential expenses. Meanwhile, CFP Board's Summer 2026 CFP® Professional Sentiment Index found that clients are more optimistic about their financial outlook than they were in the spring, although CFP® professionals said concerns about inflation, affordability and rising living costs, particularly among those nearing retirement, remain significant.
