Jason Quinn has been promoted to director of engineering after serving as NMPBS manager of broadcast technology announced Franz Joachim, general manager and CEO of New Mexico PBS,
Joachim says Quinn deserves the promotion because of his leadership.
"Jason leads a team of outstanding professionals whose dedication to keeping us on air, expanding our broadcast footprint, and pushing us farther along the edge of new technology, is noteworthy for its excellence," Joachim said.
In his new role, Quinn will be responsible for maintaining and developing 35 mountaintop translator sites and NMPBS facilities on Sandia Crest and in Albuquerque.
This is a vital role in operations, especially because the NMPBS signal covers most of the state.
Quinn's commitment, community values, and innovation were one of the many reasons for his promotion. He accepted his promotion after years of exceptional service to the University of New Mexico, and his NMPBS family is excited about his new role as the director of engineering.
"I am honored to be a 2024 recipient of this prestigious award, and I strive to continue to serve NMPBS at UNM to my fullest capabilities," said Quinn. "I extend my thanks to my entire team for allowing me the privilege to work alongside them as we continue to move our department forward."
Quinn, who was recently recognized as one of the 2024 Gerald W. May Staff Recognition Awards for distinguished service and dedication to UNM,was promoted to the director of engineering after his fellow staff nominated him for the award for his selfless service and shared stories of his dedication. When NMPBS experienced a critical outage at the Sandia Crest on Christmas Eve a few years ago, Quinn handled the urgent situation himself instead of spending time with his wife and daughter.
His coworkers also remember when Quinn led the charge with his RF team to build three tower sites for the Navajo Nation. These towers not only support PBS's educational programming but also provide an emergency alert system that serves rural communities.
"For anyone who knows him, this comes as no surprise," Joaquim said. "Jason's service to the University is only exceeded by his dedication and stellar service to the station… Congratulations."
