Aluminum Welding Training

Norton Sound Economic Development Corporation (NSEDC) is sponsoring Introduction to Aluminum Welding training through Northern Industrial Training (NIT) for NSEDC member community residents. NSEDC will cover all costs, including fees and supplies, as well as transportation, lodging and food for accepted applicants on a limited basis.

    April 14-19, 2025

    8:00am-5:00pm, six days

  • Class size:
    10 people - must apply and be selected

  • Application deadline:
    March 14, 2025

    Northern Industrial Training (NIT) in Palmer, AK

Program Details:

NSEDC member community residents who are chosen for the class will be flown to Palmer to complete a six-day, Introduction to Aluminum Welding course at NIT. Those selected for the training will have travel provided to and from their home community to Palmer. Lodging and meals will be provided throughout the training and travel.

Students will have the opportunity to learn GMAW and plasma cutting skills, including the following:

  • The mechanical means of cutting aluminum
  • Base metal preparation
  • Joint fit-up
  • Beads and fillet welds
  • Groove welds

Students will have the chance to receive an NIT certification for 48 hours of Aluminum Welding by the end of the course. Please complete and submit the following application by March 14th.

Course Requirements

Please read through these statements carefully and indicate if you agree.
1. Introduction to Aluminum Welding is an intensive 6-day course, requiring active engagement on your feet for 8-hour days.(Required)
I am in good health and am able to commit to engaged participation for 8-hour class sessions, 6-days in a row.
2. NSEDC is providing financial support for member community residents to participate in an aluminum welding training. Students are required to attend all hours of course instruction each class day. If students do not maintain regular attendance, they may be sent home and deemed ineligible for future NSEDC-sponsored training opportunities.(Required)
I understand financial support for my class participation (and for any travel, lodging, and food) is contingent upon my full participation in all class sessions. If I miss class, I may forfeit my ability to participate as a student in the Introduction to Aluminum Welding training and may be sent home.
3. NSEDC has a zero-tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol in class. Attending class under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol is forbidden and will result in removal from the course. If removed, students will be sent back to their home community and will be deemed ineligible for future training opportunities.(Required)
I understand the zero-tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol. If I attend class under the influence of drugs or alcohol, I will forfeit my seat in the class and will be required to return home.
4. Welding safety is an important aspect of this training program. Part of the course will be to learn appropriate safety measures and personal protective equipment (PPE) to keep yourself and fellow students safe while welding in the lab. Failure to comply with these safety requirements may result in a student's removal from the training and ineligibility for future NSEDC-sponsored training opportunities.(Required)
I understand that specific safety instructions will be taught and PPE will be provided. I agree to follow the necessary safety protocols and wear appropriate PPE at all times.
5. NSEDC does not guarantee employment for trainees or place trainees directly into employment. Upon successful completion of the NIT Aluminum Welding course, students will earn NIT certification for 48hrs of Aluminum Welding, acquire GMAW and plasma cutting skills, which will position them for potential future training & employment opportunities.(Required)
