Brian Poindexter in statistical tie with Max Miller in district Trump won by double digits in 2024
COLUMBUS, OH - New polling is further blaring alarm bells for Republican Congressman Max Miller, with Brian Poindexter in a statistical tie with Miller in a district that Trump won by double digits less than two years ago. Poindexter's impressive showing is fueled in part by a 17-point edge among self-described Independent voters in Ohio's 7th congressional district, with nearly half picking Poindexter. This comes after the Cook Political Report moved Ohio's 7th congressional district race from "solid R" to "lean R" last week.
"Every day is a nightmare for Max Miller's general election campaign with damning headlines, disastrous polling, and his devastating economic policies raising costs and ripping healthcare from Ohio families," said Ohio Democratic Party Communications Director Marisa Nahem. "While Miller continues to spend his days doing damage control, Ohioans of all political backgrounds are supporting Brian Poindexter who will lower costs, support Ohioans, and get Washington working for working families again."
This new polling also continues to shed light on the stark reality of President Donald Trump's tanking approvals in Ohio. While Trump won this district by 11 points in 2024, his approval rating sits at just 44 percent, with disapproval at 54 percent - and strong disapproval at 46 percent, according to this polling. Recent Cook Political Report analysis emphasized that Donald Trump's political problems could have "metastasized and spread to infect Republican candidates on the November ballot in swing states and districts," with his disastrous economic policies that Republicans like Max Miller supported - like his tariffs, healthcare cuts, and reckless war with Iran - sky-rocketing prices for Ohio families.
