Join Our Weekly Legislative Breakfast Briefing

We're in a sprint to sine die as legislators enter a period of packed schedules, tight deadlines and intense negotiations between the House and Senate. Monday is the last day for House committees to report out House bills before the regular session ends in 23 days. Now is not the time to reset your work-life balance. Long days lie ahead as lawmakers put finishing touches on hundreds of bills before sine die on June 2. A quick sampling of high-profile bills discussed this week's Tuesday Morning Breakfast:

  • House Bill 3892 by Rep. Cecil Bell (R-Magnolia) would limit county authority to regulate lot size, frontage and building placement for new developments.
  • HB 2282 by Rep. Janie Lopez (R-San Benito) would increase the law enforcement reimbursement fee from $50 to $75 for processing certain arrest warrants. The bill passed the House on Wednesday.
  • Senate Bill 8 by Sen. Charles Schwertner (R-Georgetown) would require sheriffs in counties with populations of 100,000 or more to pursue federal agreements to enforce immigration law. The bill would establish a state grant program to support implementation.

For a more complete look at recent legislative actions, see this week's Bills on the Move article. You can also explore legislation tracked by county office by visiting our Bills by Office webpage.

There are only three Tuesdays left in the regular session of the 89th Legislature and hence only three Tuesday Morning Breakfasts. Join us in person or online by registering here. Keep pace as we head into the session's final stretch.
