The Lamar University Office of Student Aid visited three area high schools this fall to recognize seniors selected for the university's most prestigious academic honor, the Presidential Scholarship.
The 2025 recipients are Mazlin Authement of Sam Houston High School (exercise science), Kade Caldwell of Lumberton High School (mechanical engineering), and Zoee Buchanan of Bridge City High School (biology, pre-med). They earned the award following a highly competitive application and interview process.
The Presidential Scholarship is the university's top academic award. It is granted to incoming freshmen with exceptional academic records and strong leadership experience. The scholarship covers four years of tuition, fees, room and board, and textbooks.
To be considered, applicants must be admitted to Lamar University and submit a résumé, a 500-word essay and two professional references. Recipients are also required to participate in the Reaud Honors College throughout their undergraduate studies.
An Early Offer is among the highest distinctions in the selection process and is reserved for students who excel far beyond expectations. Only 15 students receive the Presidential Scholarship each academic year, making the recognition especially competitive.
Applications for the 2026-27 academic year remain open through Jan. 15. The remaining scholars will be announced in the spring of 2026.
Lamar University officials said they are proud to welcome these future Cardinals and look forward to their continued success.
