Senator Collins Visits Community Development Projects in Cumberland County

Bridgton Hospital emergency department expansion and renovated food bank facility in Harrison are supported by funding secured by Senator Collins.

HARRISON, ME - U.S. Senator Susan Collins visited community development projects in Cumberland County yesterday that were supported by Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) she secured since 2022 through her role on the Senate Appropriations Committee. These projects include a renovated food bank facility in Harrison and major upgrades at Bridgton Hospital, including plans to expand and modernize the hospital's emergency department.

Since 2021, Senator Collins has secured nearly $1.5 billion for 672 targeted community development projects across each of Maine's 16 counties.

"From helping one of Maine's largest food banks expand its ability to serve individuals and families in need to supporting needed equipment and emergency department upgrades at Bridgton Hospital, these projects will make a real difference for people in western Cumberland County," said Senator Collins. "The staff and volunteers I met today are doing important work to care for their neighbors, and I am pleased that the funding I secured through my role on the Senate Appropriations Committee is helping strengthen critical local services for Mainers."

Senator Collins began the day with a visit to the Harrison Food Bank, where she met with staff and volunteers, toured the facility, and helped distribute food. She secured nearly $389,000 in CDS in 2022 to support the renovation of the food bank's facility.

Senator Collins then visited Bridgton Hospital, where she toured the facility, viewed recently upgraded medical equipment, and received an update on plans to modernize the hospital's emergency department. She also met with hospital leadership and staff, including representatives from Central Maine Healthcare.

Senator Collins has secured significant federal funding to support improvements at Bridgton Hospital, including more than $800,000 for advanced medical equipment at Bridgton and Rumford hospitals in 2022 and $5 million earlier this year to expand and upgrade the Bridgton Hospital Emergency Department.
