Chinese Embassy in Ireland Hosts the “China-Ireland Bio-tech Innovation Day”

On July 2, Chinese Embassy in Ireland and the Rinn Medical Devices centre jointly hosted the "China-Ireland Bio-tech Innovation Day". Ambassador Zhao Xiyuan, Zhuang Jia, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Cooperation under Ministry of Science and Technology of P.R. China, Diarmuid O'Brien, Chief Executive Officer of Research Ireland, and Professor David Burn, President of the University of Galway, delivered speeches respectively. The meeting was held in a hybrid online and offline format, with nearly 100 representatives from government departments, universities, research institutions and enterprises from both countries participating.

In his address, Ambassador Zhao noted that China's 15th Five-Year Plan sets out clear targets to accelerate the development of strategic emerging industries including biomedicine. Ireland also regards biotechnology as a core pillar for future industrial advancement. Cooperation between the two sides will facilitate the efficient translation of scientific and technological achievements, deliver benefits to peoples of both countries and contribute to the well-being of humanity at large.

Representatives from China and Ireland introduced the latest developments in the field of biotechnology in their respective countries.
