Cast AI Announces General Availability of Container Live Migration on AWS EKS

New Feature Enables Zero-Downtime Migration of Stateful Workloads in Kubernetes, Unlocking Substantial Cost Savings

Cast AI, the leading Application Performance Automation platform, today announced the general availability of its Commercially Supported Container Live Migration feature on Amazon Web Services (AWS) EKS. This groundbreaking capability allows stateful and uninterruptible workloads, including databases, AI/ML jobs, and other mission-critical applications, to be migrated in real time with zero downtime.

Initially previewed at KubeCon North America in November 2024, Container Live Migration was developed to address one of Kubernetes' most persistent challenges: the inability to move stateful applications without disruption. Organizations running resource-intensive, high-availability workloads often have no commercial solution to migrate them efficiently, forcing them to run on over-provisioned and underutilized nodes while driving up costs and complexity.

With this new feature, Cast AI customers can now:

  • Migrate stateful workloads without restarts or downtime
  • Consolidate workloads onto optimized nodes
  • Eliminate resource fragmentation
  • Maximize resource utilization
  • Achieve significant cost savings

In addition to migrating stateful workloads with zero downtime, Container Live Migration has several other powerful use cases, including running non-Spot-ready workloads on Spot instances and lifting-and-shifting workloads that aren't built for Kubernetes.

"From now on, any workload, no matter how stateful, can be treated like a cloud-native application," said Laurent Gil, Co-founder and President at Cast AI. "This opens the door to a new level of automation and efficiency for businesses that rely on complex, persistent workloads."

The feature is currently available on AWS EKS, with support for Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure, and other cloud providers coming soon.

"We're incredibly excited about Cast AI's Container Live Migration," said Yaniv Moshe, VP R&D at Yotpo. "For a company like Yotpo, downtime is simply not an option-many of our most critical, stateful workloads, from databases to AI/ML jobs, must always stay online. This capability finally gives us the freedom to move even our most complex applications seamlessly, without interruption. It's a powerful feature on its own, but what makes it truly valuable is how naturally it complements the rest of Cast AI's platform-things like vertical pod autoscaling, in-place resizing, and bin packing. Container Live Migration is the perfect addition to the Cast AI ecosystem."

Container Live Migration is now generally available for all Cast AI customers on AWS. For more details and to get started, visit https://cast.ai/solutions/container-live-migration/.
