Governor DeWine and OFCC Announce New Website and Video Resource Guide to Help Ohio School Districts Plan and Build Facilities

(COLUMBUS, OH) - Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) Executive Director Joy Bledsoe today announced the launch of a user-friendly website and video resource guide designed to make information about Ohio's K-12 school facility programs clear, consistent, and easy to access for districts and the public.
OFCC partners with school districts across the state to renovate and build modern, safe, and functional learning environments. No two projects are alike - each school is a custom build shaped around the needs, priorities, and vision of its own community, from urban districts to rural ones and from traditional K-12 buildings to career-technical centers.
"Since I took office in January 2019, we have funded the renovation and new construction of 141 schools here in Ohio," said Governor DeWine. "These new and updated facilities are safer for our kids and staff, and they reflect something I believe deeply: every child in Ohio deserves a great learning environment, no matter where they live."
The website transforms OFCC's 71-page Educational Facility Planning Guide into an engaging, first-of-its-kind digital resource featuring videos, graphics, and plain-language explanations of OFCC processes. It covers the Classroom Facilities Assistance Program (CFAP), Vocational Facilities Assistance Program (VFAP) and Expedited Local Partnership Program (ELPP) funding programs, OFCC's funding formula, and planning processes, along with guidance on how the Ohio School Design Manual balances quality, cost, and local needs.
In total, 26 videos were produced on topics such as how learning environments have changed over time, how to choose a good building site, available funding sources, and more.
"The goal of OFCC is to improve the school design and construction process for Ohio's districts, and these videos are a great example of progress in action," said Kim Murnieks, Director of the Office of Budget and Management and Chair of OFCC. "It's not always easy for districts to picture the possibilities for a new or renovated building without seeing it firsthand. The featured school videos give districts a chance to walk through details, including flooring, lighting, classroom layouts, and more, and to hear directly from staff and students about how design and construction choices support learning."
As part of the initiative, OFCC partnered with 10 schools from across the state, chosen to reflect the diversity of Ohio's districts - large and small, urban and rural, and both traditional K-12 and career-technical facilities. Each video tells the school's story, from design through construction to its impact on students today.

"This resource was a direct ask of districts just starting out or in the middle of their own planning process," said Bledsoe. "They told us they wanted real examples and real experiences from other communities who had been through it. Their honesty and generosity will help districts across Ohio for years to come."
