BLM approves clinoptilolite exploration project in Inyo County

BARSTOW, Calif. - The Bureau of Land Management has approved St. Cloud Mining's mining exploration project adjacent to its existing mine in Inyo County. The exploration will occur within the BLM's Amargosa North Area of Critical Environmental Concern and result in less than one acre of surface disturbance.

St. Cloud Mining is approved to drill 43 exploratory drill holes on public lands east of Death Valley Junction to explore for clinoptilolite, a mineral widely used in many industries to control moisture, capture odors, and neutralize potentially harmful compounds.

Projects like this support President Trump's Executive Order 14241, "Immediate Measures to Increase American Mineral Production," to boost domestic mineral production and reduce U.S. reliance on foreign minerals, enhance national security, and create jobs.

Additional information, including the environmental assessment, finding of no significant impact, and decision record are available at the BLM National NEPA Register. For more information, please contact BLM Geologist Jamie Livingood at [email protected].
