Oregon Tech’s BS in Geomatics: Surveying Program Earns Six-Year ABET ANSAC Reaccreditation

Oregon Tech's Bachelor of Science in Geomatics: Surveying program has been reaccredited by ABET's Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission (ANSAC) for six years with no shortcomings. The decision affirms the program's academic rigor, continuous improvement, and long-standing impact on the surveying profession.

ABET accreditation provides assurance that a college or university program meets the quality standards of its profession-across Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computing, and Applied and Natural Science.

"This outcome reflects the exceptional work of our faculty and staff and the quality of education our students receive," said Dr. Neslihan Alp, Dean of the College of Engineering, Technology, and Management (ETM). "It's also a clear signal to employers across the region and beyond that Oregon Tech graduates are prepared to lead in a rapidly evolving geospatial field."

A proud, decades-long legacy:

• Oregon Tech's Geomatics program has been continuously accredited by ABET since 1985, making it one of the oldest accredited surveying programs in the United States.
• The university began offering an associate degree in Surveying in 1951, which earned accreditation from the Engineers' Council on Professional Development (ECPD)-now ABET-in 1953.
• The first baccalaureate Surveying Technology degree launched in 1966 and received TAC-ABET accreditation in 1970; the program was later among the first two Bachelor of Science Surveying programs nationally to receive TAC-ABET accreditation in 1984.
• In 2001, the degree title officially changed from Surveying to Geomatics, reflecting the profession's broadening scope amid the geospatial technology revolution.

"Reaccreditation with no shortcomings validates our commitment to hands-on learning and industry relevance," said Dr. Su Jin Lee, program faculty member. "We're grateful to our colleagues and partners who help us keep the curriculum current and impactful."

Oregon Tech acknowledged the leadership and preparation efforts of Dr. Su Jin Lee and Ms. Christy Leventon, whose work was pivotal to the successful review.

In addition to Geomatics, Oregon Tech's Engineering programs hold accreditation from ABET's Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC), with the next review scheduled for Fall 2028, and its Engineering Technology programs are accredited by ABET's Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission (ETAC), with the next review in Fall 2026.
