Music coming to MCI for holidays

The Kansas City Aviation Department (KCAD) and Creative City KC are bringing some holiday swing to the airport starting Thursday, December 11th at 11:30 am.

Throughout December, local Kansas City artists will perform in the baggage claim area near the Arrivals level information desk with a program entitled "Flying Home for the Holidays."

The holiday music pop-up is a collaboration between Creative City KC, Kansas City's UNESCO City of Music organization, KCAD, and Councilwoman Melissa Robinson to give travelers a bit of holiday cheer and excitement as they arrive in Kansas City.

"As a lifelong advocate for our rich musical heritage, I am thrilled to see the Kansas City Aviation Department and Creative City KC unite to bring our vibrant jazz tradition to the airport." said Councilwoman Melissa Robinson. "This exciting program, 'Flying Home for the Holidays,' not only showcases the immense talent of our local artists but also embodies the warm spirit of our community. Through music, we welcome travelers home to Kansas City, celebrating the unique rhythm and cultural legacy that makes our city truly special."

Each group will perform holiday classics with a Kansas City Twist, incorporating the city's long history of Jazz and Swing music.

"Creative City KC is excited to share the sounds of Kansas City musicians at the airport. Welcoming visitors and residents alike with music is a great way to welcome everyone home to KC," said Jake Wagner, Creative City KC Co-Founder.

Music begins this week with the Desmond Mason Trio and will continue each week, on Thursday, with a new group.

  • Dec 11 - Desmond Mason Trio

  • Dec 18 - Ezgi Karakus Trio

  • Dec 23 - Peter Schlamb Trio

  • Dec 30 - The Ward Trio

Kansas City Missouri is a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network - and the first UNESCO City of Music in the United States.
