In February 2026, three Boise State information technology management and supply chain management students, Crystal Becerra, Aspen DeMasters and Nathan Swift, participated in the Cytiva OpEx Case Competition at Utah State University.

For the competition, students worked in teams, applying their problem-solving and operational excellence skills to tackle a real-world business case provided by Cytiva, a biotechnology company. More than 90 students from five universities took part in this year's competition.

Although Boise State did not advance from the group stage, during the announcement of the finalists, two judges commended the students for their insightful perspectives on supply and operational risks and potential failure modes at Cytiva

"Crystal, Aspen and Nathan represented Boise State and the College of Business and Economics admirably, demonstrating an insightful analysis of the case," said Matthew Castel, assistant professor in supply chain management.
