Helene Disaster Case Management (DCM) Program will close to new intakes on August 31, 2026

North Carolina Emergency Management wants to remind those impacted by Hurricane Helene that the Helene Disaster Case Management (DCM) Program will close to new intakes on August 31, 2026.
While the program was extended through January 22, 2027, to allow case managers to continue supporting impacted households, it is important to give case managers an opportunity to prioritize ongoing case work and prepare for a responsible transition as the program sunsets.
Since the beginning of the program:

  • Case managers have made over 29,389 referrals to survivors to help them access recovery resources
  • The DCM Resource Library currently contains 841 entries with recovery resources to assist Helene survivors
  • Since the start of the program, over 32,000 calls have been handled by DCM's Contact Center Navigator team

The program continues to coordinate closely with local and statewide recovery partners to ensure a smooth transition for survivors and partner organizations.
