Investing in Ukraine’s AI leadership and economic future

Since the first days of the full-scale invasion, Google has worked alongside the Ukrainian government to help support the country's security and resilience. Today, we are deepening that partnership by investing in its economic future.

In the face of unimaginable challenges, Ukraine has become a global role model for digital transformation and AI adoption. From Diia to Mriia, the country continues to show the world how technology can be used not just to endure, but to build a more modern and efficient nation.

That's why today, Google.org is announcing a $5 million grant to help expand Obrii, an AI-powered platform designed to connect people in Ukraine with jobs. The announcement was made at the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC) in Gdansk, Poland.

Oleksandr Tsybort, Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformations, and Digitalization; Oleksii Sobolev, Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine; Annette Kroeber-Riel, Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Policy for Europe at Google; and Anna Bulakh, Government Affairs and Public Policy Lead for Ukraine at Google.

How Obrii uses AI to connect people to jobs

Developed by Ukraine's Ministry of Economy and integrated with the country's Diia digital services app, Obrii creates a single place for job seekers to manage their qualifications and work history. With support from Google.org, the platform will use AI to:

  • Match individuals with job openings based on their skills and location.
  • Recommend training opportunities in fields that need more workers.
  • Help students and graduates find their first job through a new initiative.
  • Allow employment contracts to be signed and managed digitally.

According to Oleksii Sobolev, Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, "For us, this is not merely an investment in technology. It is an investment in people and in Ukraine's economic recovery. We are pleased that Google is expanding its cooperation with the Ukrainian government and, for the first time in its history, is supporting the development of digital labour market infrastructure. Thanks to this partnership, we will be able to connect job seekers with training and employment opportunities more quickly, while helping businesses find the skilled talent they need."

The project aims to have 5 million registered users and help 100,000 people find employment through the platform by the end of 2027. This initiative builds on our deep and ongoing commitment to supporting Ukraine's recovery.
