An adult male was arrested following a vandalism spree in the Pleasant Valley Neighborhood.
On Saturday, March 28, 2026, at approximately 8:45 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to a residence in the 5900 block of Southeast Equestrian Drive following reports of an unknown individual armed with a large metal pole in the backyard. Around the same time, multiple 911 callers reported a suspect breaking windows at nearby homes.
Suspect's metal poleOfficers located the suspect, who initially walked away, prompting a perimeter to be established. The individual fled through several yards and forced entry into at least one home before being confronted and forced out by a resident. With assistance from the Air Unit, K9 units, Unmanned Aerial Systems (drones), and numerous patrol officers, the suspect was eventually taken into custody.
The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Christopher M. Kartzmark, was transported to a local hospital for evaluation before being lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center on the following charges: Burglary in the First Degree, Criminal Mischief in the First Degree (two counts), Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree, and Theft in the Third Degree.
Further investigation revealed that Kartzmark is believed to have damaged fences, doors, windows and vehicles at numerous homes in the area of Southeast Equestrian Drive and Southeast Sawtooth Street.
"Thanks to coordinated efforts and quick response from our officers and specialized units, we were able to safely take this individual into custody and prevent further harm to the community," said Chief Bob Day. "We appreciate the vigilance of residents who promptly reported suspicious activity."
