Total expenditure by international tourists up to November 2025 amounted to €126.707 billion, which represents an increase of 6.9% compared to the same period in 2024, according to data published today by the National Statistics Institute (INE). This figure is already higher than the entire cumulative expenditure between January and December last year, which amounted to €126.282 billion.

The number of international tourists arriving in Spain in the first eleven months of 2025 exceeded 91.4 million, an increase of 3.4% compared to the same period of the previous year.

In November, 5.7 million international tourists visited our country, an increase of 2.1% year-on-year; these tourists spent around €8 billion in our country, 5% more than in November 2024.

As has been the case throughout the year, these figures confirm the trend of spending at the destination growing faster than the rate of arrivals, which was somewhat more moderate in 2025 than in the year before. This statistical trend aligns with the Ministry's commitment to a new, more sustainable tourism model that prioritises quality over quantity, decentralises and reduces the seasonality of destinations, and diversifies the tourism offerings.

In the first eleven months of 2025, the UK was the country with the highest cumulative expenditure (17.8% of the total) and an increase of 12.7% in November, followed by Germany (11.8%), which decreased its expenditure by 0.7% in the eleventh month, and France (8.7%), which also decreased slightly by 0.2%. In November, spending by visitors from the "rest of the world" group stood out, with an 7.1% year-on-year increase.

Meanwhile, the autonomous communities with the highest cumulative spending were Catalonia (18.5% of the total), the Balearic Islands (17.5%), and the Canary Islands (16.4%).

In terms of visitors, the main countries of origin up to November were the UK (with almost 18.2 million and an increase of 3.9% compared to the same period in 2024), France (with more than 12 million and a slight decrease of 0.5%), and Germany (with more than 11.4 million and an increase of 0.9%).

The top destinations for the year to date were Catalonia (19.1 million tourists and a 1% increase compared to the same period last year); the Balearic Islands (15.5 million and a 2.6% increase), and Andalusia (14.2 million, a 3.4% increase).

Spending continues to outpace visitor growth

In November, the increase in spending by international tourists was 2.9 percentage points higher than the increase in the number of foreign visitors. Specifically, in November, Spain received 5.7 million international tourists (2.1% more), who generated a total expenditure of more than €8 billion (5% more).

In this month, each tourist spent an average of €1,399, which represents an increase of 2.9% compared to November of the previous year. Visitors' average daily expenditure grew by 5.4% year-on-year to €188.

Meanwhile, the length of stay of the majority of tourists was four to seven nights, with more than 2.7 million and an annual decrease of 1.3%.

In November, the UK continued to be the leading country of origin for visitors, with more than a million visitors who left €1.303 billion in Spain. In second place was France, with 695,770 tourists and an expenditure of €581 million, and in third place was Germany, with around 667,000 visitors and an expenditure of €949 million.

The Canary Islands, top destination in November

Catalonia was the leading destination for international tourists in November, with 1,461,395 visitors that month and a year-on-year increase of 0.9%. In second place was Catalonia, with 1,273,727 visitors and the same 0.9% increase. Andalusia received a total of 825,983 visitors (up 6.3%).

The autonomous communities with the greatest weight in terms of tourist spending in November were the Canary Islands (with 27.7% of the total), Catalonia (18.1%), and the Community of Madrid (17.1%). The annual rate of tourist spending increased by 1.7% in the Canary Islands, by 5.9% in Catalonia, and by 14.6% in the Community of Madrid.
