POMEROY - The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is proud to announce the grand opening of the newly reconstructed rest area on U.S. 33 westbound in Meigs County. The re-imagined facility is part of Ohio's ongoing initiative to improve safety and enhance the travel experience for motorists across the state.
"This new rest area provides travelers with a secure, updated, and well-maintained place to rest, helping to reduce fatigue-related accidents on our highways," said Ohio Governor Mike DeWine. "We also hope to provide travelers with a glimpse of what this area has to offer, so they can plan a future weekend adventure or vacation exploring Ohio, the Heart of it All."
The rest area has been re-imagined with upgrades such as rocking chairs, benches, and covered picnic tables. Several nearby attractions will be highlighted inside the rest area, including Burr Oak, Hocking Hills, and Lake Hope State Parks.
"This investment reflects Ohio's commitment to traveler safety and promoting the great state of Ohio," said ODOT Director Pam Boratyn. "The upgraded rest area not only provides essential services but also serves as a gateway to discovering more of Ohio's attractions, promoting both tourism and local exploration."
A universal changing station is available in the family restroom, offering an adjustable table in a clean, safe, and private space. These tables are thoughtfully designed to meet the personal care needs of individuals of all heights, weights, and mobility levels. They provide a convenient and accessible solution for caregivers assisting those with disabilities or medical conditions, ensuring a comfortable and inclusive experience for all. There are 29 rest areas across Ohio set to receive universal changing stations by the end of 2026.
This opening is part of Governor DeWine's initiative to refresh and reimagine 36 new rest areas by the end of 2026.
