ICYMI: DNC Chair Martin Hits the Local Media Circuit to Decry GOP’s Passage of Trump’s Budget Betrayal, Outline Democrats’ Plan to Fight Back Arrow

This week, DNC Chair Ken Martin sat down with stations across the country to discuss the harmful impacts of Trump and Republicans' billionaire-first budget. Chair Martin highlighted how nearly every single Republican in Congress betrayed their constituents when they voted to pass Trump's reverse Robin Hood budget betrayal that enriches billionaires at the expense of working Americans everywhere. Additionally, Chair Martin emphasized Democrats will not take these attacks lying down - the DNC is organizing everywhere, building strong Democratic infrastructure across the states, and planning moments to continue to keep the pressure on Republicans, hold them accountable, and kick them out of their seats in the 2026 midterms.

Take a look at some of the coverage below:

On Broadcast:

On WRIC: "DNC Chair Ken Martin telling me that the party will invest both money and manpower in an effort to help Abigail Spanberger get elected as Virginia's 75th governor in November. … DNC Chair Ken Martin says the Democratic Party is committed to helping Democrats win in the commonwealth this November. 'We'll do as much as we can to make sure we're doing our part with people on the ground, with monetary resources, and making sure that we are holding Republicans accountable to the disastrous votes that they're taking both in Washington and, of course, in Richmond.'"

On PBS NewsHour: "All Republicans, every single one of them, put their oath to Donald Trump ahead of the oath to their constituents that they were elected by and as a result of this betrayal, this big, beautiful betrayal, they betrayed seniors, where over a quarter of nursing homes around this country are going to close. They betrayed children. … They betrayed rural communities. … They betrayed hardworking Americans … and at the end of the day, they did all of that to actually help those in our communities who already have so much - the billionaires, the rich, the people who don't need a tax break. … We've already hosted over 130 town halls throughout the country to hold Republicans accountable to their disastrous policies that they've been pushing from the beginning with this administration, not just to hold them accountable but to make sure that we're helping to amplify the stories of all the pain and anguish that's been inflicted upon the American people since Donald Trump was inaugurated."

On WJZY: "Martin argues the bill does more harm than good. '652,000 North Carolinians are going to lose their health insurance because of this billionaire budget. We know that the cuts to snap nutrition benefits are going to put 142,000 North Carolinians, most of them children, at risk of losing their food assistance.'"

Queen City News: Democrats call Trump's budget bill a "big, beautiful betrayal"

[Andy Weber, 7/8/25]

"Top Democrats are calling President Trump's major budget bill, signed into law last week, 'a big, beautiful betrayal.'

"DNC Chair Ken Martin argued the bill falls far short of what was promised during an exclusive interview with Queen City News Chief Political Correspondent Andy Weber on Tuesday.

"'We know that 652,000 North Carolinians are going to lose their health insurance because of this billionaire budget. We know that the cuts to SNAP nutrition benefits are going to put 142,000 North Carolinians, most of them children, at risk of losing their food assistance,' said Martin. …

"'It's all hogwash. At the end of the day, this bill is going to impact everyone in this country, unless you're a billionaire; everyone is going to face some sort of consequence on this,' said Martin. …

"'This is the most unpopular bill in over half a century. It's not just unpopular with Democrats, it's not just unpopular with independents, it's unpopular with Republican voters,' said Martin."

Channel 3000: 'We're going to hang their vote around their neck': DNC chair outlines plan in wake of Trump's spending bill passage

[Kyle Jones, 7/9/25]

"The chair of the Democratic National Committee told Channel3000.com Tuesday that his party needs to hold Republican lawmakers accountable following the passage of President Donald Trump's 'Big Beautiful Bill' last week. …

"'Folks in Wisconsin, many of them who voted for Donald Trump, are going to be impacted tremendously by this bill,' DNC Chair Ken Martin said. 'It's not just people who voted for Donald Trump. It's, frankly, all Americans who are going to be impacted.' …

"'All these Republicans who decried how devastating this bill was going to be, they still ended up voting for it,' Martin said. 'The reality is they didn't reshape the contours of this bill in any way to reduce how devastating it's going to be to folks in Wisconsin or throughout this country.' …

"The Democratic Party recently began its summer organizing. That includes continuing the work announced earlier this year to boost state parties. Martin said the DNC is identifying winnable races up and down the ballot, hoping that 2025 victories will springboard the party to even bigger gains.

"'We're going to hang [Republicans'] vote around their neck,' Martin said. 'We're going to make sure that it's a relentless pressure from now all the way till November of 2026'"

WIRC: Only On 8: DNC Chair says Dems will be 'exclusively focused on an economic message' ahead of Virginia elections

[Tyler Englander, 7/9/25]

"In an exclusive interview, Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin told 8News that the Democratic Party is all in on Virginia ahead of the November elections.

"'We'll do as much as we can to make sure that we're doing our part with people on the ground, with monetary resources, and making sure that we are holding Republicans accountable to the disastrous votes that they're taking both in Washington and, of course, in Richmond,' Martin told 8News.

"Martin said the DNC will spend at least seven figures in Virginia to try and reach voters who may have turned on the Democratic Party in recent elections.

"'We're gonna be exclusively focused on an economic message that gives people a sense that their better days are ahead of them, not behind them, and that the anxiety that they feel right now doesn't have to be a permanent state,' Martin said. …

"'This is an opportunity for us to actually remind voters that it's the Democratic Party that's committed to your economic success,' Martin told 8News. 'It's the Democratic Party that's fighting for your family and for your community. It's the Democratic Party that's gonna be focused on building an economic agenda that's going to lift everyone's boats, not just a few at the top.'"

Atlanta News First: 'Georgia is one of the critical battleground states': DNC chair talks midterm elections, Trump budget bill

[Doug Reardon, 7/9/25]

"Democratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin, in his first year at the helm of the party, said policies like Trump's so-called 'big, beautiful' budget bill will ultimately help Democrats win back voters.

"'Certainly, we're going to hang this vote around their neck, but we then have to pivot to giving people a sense of what the hell we would do as Democrats to improve their lives,' said Martin. 'The opportunity, of course, is it provides Democrats a chance to actually have conversations with voters who left our party. Working class people, big parts of our coalition, who didn't feel like we're standing up and fighting for them.'

"In an exclusive interview with Atlanta News First, Martin also said the DNC is going to throw all its might behind Georgia races this year, and not just at the top of the ballot.

"'We've got to work right now to win the moment. We've got to win in Georgia in '26 because of all the critical races on the ballot,' he said. 'Georgia is a state that's trending in our direction. We have to invest, and we can't just invest in federal races.' …

"'For us, Georgia is one of the critical battleground states. Not just in 2026, but for the foreseeable future,' he said."

WTEA Pittsburgh: Pennsylvania Democrats warn of job losses, health care cuts under Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill"

[Shannon Perrine, 7/10/25]

"'Think about this 484,000 Pennsylvanians are going to lose their health insurance because of Trump's billionaire budget. You know, the the cuts to the SNAP funding, I mean, that 143,000 Pennsylvanians are going to lose their food assistance. Probably 57,000. At least 57,000 Pennsylvanians are going to lose their job because of this billionaire budget. And, you know, at the end of the day, we know that probably 5 to 6 rural hospitals in Pennsylvania are likely to close,' Ken Martin, chair of the Democratic National Committee, said."
