Washington, D.C. - Today, President Donald J. Trump released his Great Healthcare Plan and Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council (SBE Council) President & CEO Karen Kerrigan issued the following statement in response:

"Small business owners and the self-employed are stressed by high health insurance costs and limited flexibility and choices. President Trump's plan takes important steps to fix longstanding obstacles that keep costs high and healthcare consumers in the dark. Shifting dollars and decisions to consumers and patients will make the healthcare system and insurance coverage more affordable and accountable."

"The President's reforms that focus on improving accountability, competition, and transparency are central to creating a market-based system for healthcare and insurance coverage. The plan supports this, for example, through PBM changes that will benefit patients, employers, and independent pharmacies. Measures included within the U.S. House-passed Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act, many of which complement the President's plan,also target underlying cost drivers in the healthcare system and offer reforms that will give small business owners and their employees affordable choices."

"SBE Council will continue to urge Congress and the Administration to focus on reforms that empower markets, entrepreneurs, investment, innovation and patients. Excessive government regulation and spending in healthcare are the root cause of high costs and market dysfunction. If we want to encourage investment, innovation, more choices and affordability, the government must pull back on its meddling and micromanagement. SBE Council looks forward to working with President Trump and Congress on advancing reforms that allow small business owners and their employees to choose among affordable-quality options that best meet their individual and family needs."
