State Secretary Valeriu Mija briefs on the current security situation in the Middle East and measures taken by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova

4 March 2026, Chișinău - State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Valeriu Mija, presented the current security situation in the Middle East and the measures undertaken by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova.

The MFA Crisis Cell has been activated and is operating on a permanent basis to monitor developments in the region and coordinate actions with the country's diplomatic missions. The main priority is the safety of Moldovan citizens in Middle Eastern states and the protection of diplomatic staff.

To date, no casualties or injured persons have been reported among citizens of the Republic of Moldova. Airspace in several countries in the region has been temporarily closed, while Dubai International Airport has partially reopened for certain flights.

The Republic of Moldova's embassies are in direct contact with citizens in the affected area and are reviewing evacuation requests received from Israel, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. In addition, several Moldovan citizens are currently stranded in South Asia, after planning to transit through the Middle East.

The authorities advise citizens to avoid non-essential travel, follow the instructions of local authorities, continuously check flight status, and stay in contact with diplomatic missions. Travel agencies are also urged not to undertake independent evacuations that could put citizens at risk.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in contact with international partners to identify safe evacuation opportunities when conditions allow.

Citizens are encouraged to rely exclusively on official information published by the MFA and the Republic of Moldova's embassies in the region.
