Michael Lovenheim named editor of the Journal of Human Resources

Michael Lovenheim, professor of economics at the ILR School and in the Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy, has been appointed the next editor of the Journal of Human Resources (JHR). Having served as the JHR's coeditor since 2018, Lovenheim succeeds Anna Aizer (Brown University) and will assume the role on July 1.

"By taking on the editorship of one of the most important journals for labor economic research, Michael is making an important contribution to the advancement of research in the field," said Alex Colvin, Ph.D. '99, the Kenneth F. Kahn '69 Dean and Martin F. Scheinman '75, MS '76, Professor of Conflict Resolution.

Lovenheim's expansive research focuses on public finance and labor economics, particularly education economics. With more than 40 peer-reviewed publications to his credit, he has examined a range of topics, including the effect of college major choices on student earnings, the productivity of for-profit colleges, the impact of teacher unions on school districts and student, as well as a series of papers on how housing wealth affects key household investment decisions, such as collegiate attainment, fertility, child health, healthcare spending and wealth transmission across generations.

"I am pleased to see Mike step into the editorship of the Journal of Human Resources," said Colleen Barry, Dean of the Cornell Brooks School of Public Policy. "Throughout his career, Mike has focused on rigor, excellence and policy impact, and I look forward to seeing how he will bring that ethos to this important new leadership role."

Lovenheim is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and an adjunct senior fellow at the Hoover Institution. He has also held editorial positions with the Journal of Policy Analysis and Management (coeditor, 2015-18) and Demography (editorial board, 2013 to present).
