BNSF Coal: 2025-2026 Christmas and New Year's Operating Plan

This year, BNSF will observe the Christmas holiday on Wednesday, December 24, and Thursday, December 25, and the New Year's holiday on Wednesday, December 31, and Thursday, January 1, 2026.
Coal trains - both loaded and empty - will continue to operate according to regular schedules; however, BNSF plans to minimize the number of yard, local and road-switch assignments at terminals over the holidays consistent with customer activity and volume demand. Connecting carriers who have reduced operations may cause delays on interline traffic.
For questions regarding coal unit trains, please email [email protected], which will be staffed on the holidays. Additionally, customers can log in to the BNSF Customer Portal and open a Message Us case by selecting Unit Train in the business segment field and Unit Coal in the reason field.
