Rep. Gillen Statement on Indictment in Nafiah Ikram Case

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Laura Gillen (NY-04) released the following statement after an indictment was handed down in connection to the 2021 acid attack on Elmont resident, Nafiah Ikram.

"The unprovoked acid attack against Nafiah Ikram outside her home in Elmont five years ago was horrific and monstrous. For years, her attacker remained at large, posing a continued threat to our communities and denying the Ikram family the justice they deserve. That's why in 2022, when Nafiah's mother reached out for help advancing her daughter's case, I made a commitment to stand by them and help. Since then, I have repeatedly advocated for a resolution to this case on Nafiah's behalf. I'm relieved to see that an arrest has been made in the case. Now, Nafiah and her family are one step closer to receiving the justice and closure they deserve."
