Following a weekend that included dramatic storm activity that damaged many trees throughout the community, the City of Bismarck's Forestry Division reminds the public that a commercial arborist license is required to do commercial tree work in Bismarck per City ordinance.
According to 13-02-05, "It is unlawful for any person to do commercial tree pruning or removal within the City without a commercial license to do so, except if such a person is part of a crew or group working under the direct and immediate supervision of the holder of a commercial license."
A list of licensed community arborists is available online. This page also includes a printable list of licensed commercial arborists.
"Bismarck-licensed arborists are either certified through the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) or have taken and passed our arborist test to demonstrate competency in the field of arboriculture," said Bismarck City Forester Christy Ames-Davis. "Additionally, all licensed arborists are required to maintain insurance coverage."
Forestry crews, along with staff from Streets, began working to clear downed trees from the storm that swept through Bismarck during the evening of Friday, June 20.
Bismarck residents are encouraged to place storm damaged trees and branches on the boulevard for collection. Branches should be cut in lengths so one person can handle them. Branches will not be collected from the alleyways. Trees and branches placed on the boulevards will be picked up on the regular scheduled garbage day by other types of equipment. Please keep garbage and recycling containers at least 4 feet away from trees and branches set out for collection. Please park vehicles a minimum of ten feet away from debris piles so damage doesn't occur when staff pick up storm damaged trees and branches. Please avoid placing tree debris in the street since this will block the water flow to the storm drains, potentially causing street flooding during heavy rain events.
