Summer Streets Returns: This Saturday Festivities Kick Off in Queens and Staten Island

Summer Streets features more than 20 miles of car-free streets and programming over five Saturdays in July and August, with new hours

NYC DOT to also display New York Knicks championship parade sign and hold contest to win a replica of the Champions Way signs that appeared along the ticker-tape parade route

NEW YORK - NYC Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) Commissioner Mike Flynn today reminds New Yorkers that Summer Streets returns this Saturday, July 25, with festivities in Queens and Staten Island. Summer Streets will run for five consecutive Saturdays through August 22. More than 20 miles of car-free streets will be open to pedestrians and cyclists from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Manhattan and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, and Staten Island.

"Summer Streets is a celebration of the season and how we can bring public space alive to benefit all New Yorkers. More than 500,000 people participate in Summer Streets each year, and we are proud to kick off this year in Queens and Staten Island," said NYC DOT Commissioner Mike Flynn. "Summer Streets builds community through recreation and people-centered activities and programs, and I encourage all New Yorkers to join in the fun."

CHAMPIONS WAY SIGN RAFFLE

This summer, New York City has been the epicenter of all things sports, including the Knicks championship and the FIFA World Cup. Keeping sports enthusiasm and Knicks fever alive, NYC DOT will be displaying a New York Knicks championship sign that was part of the city's ticker-tape parade. A photo booth will be available, and everyone who takes a selfie with the sign, follows @NYC_DOT on Instagram, and tags @NYC_DOT in a publicly visible post or story will be entered into a contest to win a replica Champions Way street sign. Champions Way signs were displayed along the championship parade route through the Canyon of Heroes.

During each Summer Streets weekend, an NYC DOT truck will be at the Summer Streets locations in Queens, Manhattan, and Brooklyn and display the championship parade sign. All those who participate will be automatically registered for the giveaway. Make sure to be following the @nyc_dot instagram page for your entry to count.

NYC DOT will run one contest per weekend, and winners will be selected during the following week.

Citywide Schedule:

• Saturday, July 25: Queens and Staten Island
• • Queens: Vernon Boulevard, from 44th Drive to 30th Drive-will allow users to enjoy the entire Queens waterfront in Long Island City and Astoria.
  • Staten Island: Broadway, from Richmond Terrace to Harvest Avenue-connecting attendees from Corporal Thompson Park to steps away from the Staten Island Zoo.
• Saturday, August 1, 8, and 15: Manhattan
• • From the Brooklyn Bridge to Broadway and Dyckman Street, in Inwood.
  • • Lafayette Street and Park Avenue between Brooklyn Bridge and East 110 Street
    • East 110 Street between Park Avenue and Broadway
    • Adam Clayton Powell Jr Boulevard between West 110 Street and West 113 Street
    • Broadway between West 110 Street and Dyckman Street
• Saturday, August 22: Brooklyn and The Bronx
• • Brooklyn: Eastern Parkway, from Grand Army Plaza to Buffalo Avenue-connecting Prospect Heights and Brownsville along the same route as the Labor Day Caribbean Day Parade.
  • Bronx: Grand Concourse, from East Tremont Avenue to Mosholu Parkway-opening a major car-free corridor to people from the west to the north Bronx.

This year's programming includes exciting new events for New Yorkers to enjoy:

• NYRR Start Line Series: In partnership with New York Road Runners (NYRR), the nonprofit that "runs" New York City, NYC DOT is hosting an initiative bringing free, community-based running and walking events to Summer Streets. The series kicks off in Queens on July 25. For the first time ever, NYC DOT and NYRR will also host events in Manhattan on August 1 and The Bronx on August 22. Registration is open.
• Discounted Citi Bike Rides: Available on 7/25/25, use code SUMMER2WHEEL in the Lyft or Citi Bike app to save up to $10 on two rides (max savings of $20).
• Dynamic Art Installations:
• • The Bower by Elsa Ponce: A shade structure that invites kids and adults alike to draw with chalk on the ground using playful shadows, in Manhattan.
  • Big Spinning Wheels by Josh Cohen: Kinetic sculptures that create hypnotic optical patterns while colorful arms twirl together, in Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and on Staten Island.
  • NYC Art Stop Letters return with fresh designs from illustrators Amanda Lobos and Grace Park, showcasing the joy and fun of Summer across all event dates.
