The Madison Police Department is offering an inside look at policing through this year's Community Academy.
The program is designed to give people an understanding of the department's values, goals and operations. People will learn about a variety of topics, such as how we staff officers, how our forensic unit collects evidence, the importance of community partnerships. There will also be presentations discussing the gang culture in Madison and how our team responds to people in mental health crisis.
The event runs every Thursday in April and is held at one of our police stations across the city.
"Community Academy is perfect for anyone who is interested in true crime. It gives people a real understanding of how an actual police department works, not just what you see on TV or listen to in a podcast, " said Lt. Liv Novitzke, who oversees our community outreach team and is planning this year's Academy.
