Temporary Closure Scheduled for S.D. Highway 248 Near Kennebec

WINNER, S.D. - The South Dakota Department of Transportation (SDDOT) recently discovered damage to an existing box culvert underneath S.D. Highway 248 approximately two miles east of Kennebec. This damage requires a short-term closure of an approximately six mile segment on Highway 248 between the towns of Kennebec and Lyman.
The short-term closure is scheduled to begin on Monday, Aug. 17, 2026, and anticipated to be in place for two to three days. Motorists are advised to use Interstate 90 as an alternate route during the temporary closure. Local traffic will be allowed to use Highway 248, however will not be able to travel through any active work areas.
The temporary closure of this six-mile segment on Highway 248 will allow SDDOT crews to complete needed work at the box culvert site.
