PITTSBURGH - The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) has named AHN chief operating officer and president of hospitals Lou Baverso, MBA, MISM, to a three-year term on its board of directors.
HAP's 28-member board, composed of health care leaders from across the commonwealth, works to set the association's strategic direction, fostering a robust hospital community and promoting access to high-quality care.
"I am proud to welcome Lou Baverso to HAP's Board of Directors," HAP President and CEO Nicole Stallings said. "Lou has strong ties to Pennsylvania, bringing decades of experience as a leader in complex health care systems and a focus on increasing access and inpatient capacity. We welcome his perspective supporting the clinicians dedicated to patient care and hospitals that are the backbone of thriving communities."
Baverso joined AHN in 2025 as chief operating officer and president of hospitals from UAB Health System, a $7 billion Alabama-based provider, where he served as the system's COO. UAB is anchored by UAB University Hospital, a 1,200-bed academic facility that is one of the nation's largest hospitals. Prior to joining UAB in 2023, Baverso spent his three-decade health care career at UPMC and its member hospitals in various prominent administrative and executive roles.
Baverso is also the interim president of AHN West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.
"I am honored to join the HAP Board of Directors and contribute to an organization so vital to the health of Pennsylvania's communities," said Baverso. "I look forward to collaborating with my fellow board members to address the evolving challenges and opportunities facing our hospitals and health systems, ultimately working towards a healthier future for all Pennsylvanians."
