MILLINOCKET, ME - Today, U.S. Senator Susan Collins attended the grand opening of Millinocket Regional Hospital's new emergency department where she delivered remarks and toured the facility with hospital staff. Since 2022, Senator Collins has secured nearly $13.4 million in Congressionally Directed Spending to help construct and equip Millinocket Regional Hospital's new emergency department, which will double the number of rooms available to patients.
"As a native of Caribou, I know how important emergency health care access is to the vitality, and even the survival, of our state's rural communities. Seeing the beautiful new emergency department in Millinocket today, I was struck by how thoughtfully it was designed and built to meet the specific needs of this region," said Senator Collins. "This critical addition to the community will help increase access to quality emergency services for both residents and visitors of the Katahdin Region alike. It was a pleasure to congratulate the leaders, staff, and supporters of Millinocket Regional Hospital on this significant advancement, and I was proud to help make it possible by securing nearly $13.4 million through two Congressionally Directed Spending awards to construct and equip this facility."

Throughout her Senate service, Senator Collins has continued to be a champion for rural Maine. In December, Senator Collins announced that Maine will receive $190 million in first-year funding through the Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP), a $50 billion initiative that will be awarded over five years that she proposed to support rural health care systems across the country. The RHTP is the largest single federal investment in rural health care in more than two decades.
Senator Collins recently joined Steve Michaud, the longtime President of the Maine Hospital Association, for a conversation at the American Hospital Association's annual meeting about the challenges facing our rural health and how she is working to address them.
