CONGRESSMAN MOYLAN SEEKS ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR GUAM ARMY NATIONAL GUARD AND GUAM DEFENSE SYSTEM

(Washington, D.C.) During a House Armed Services Committee hearing today, Congressman Moylan called on Army leadership to strengthen commitments to Guam's defense needs in the Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) budget. The hearing centered on aligning budget priorities and ensuring that the Army has a concrete plan to address the unique defense challenges that Guam is currently facing.

In FY2025, Congressman Moylan secured additional funding to enhance Guam's defense infrastructure, aiming to promote much-needed investments that would improve local readiness. This essential support was intended to finance key projects such as a new hardened operations center crucial to the island's role in national security and regional stability. He expressed concerns about the delay in deploying this funding and sought assurances from Army Chief of Staff General Randy George and Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll that Guam's guardsmen would have access to modern equipment, receive consistent training opportunities, and fully participate in regional exercises under the FY26 budget.

"The Guam Army National Guard plays a vital role in our island's security and the broader Indo-Pacific strategy," said Congressman Moylan. "I was pleased to hear that General George holds our Army National Guardsmen in high esteem, a sentiment that makes us all proud. Our brave men and women deserve the same level of readiness and support as their counterparts across the nation."

Congressman Moylan asked General George what corrective actions are being implemented to address concerns about the Army's execution of the Guam Defense System (GDS), referencing a recent Government Accountability Office (GAO) report that identified logistical shortfalls, including the lack of a long-term installation support strategy and insufficient infrastructure for personnel and their families.

"I am happy to hear that General George has already secured a memorandum of understanding with U.S. Navy and Marine Corps leadership to ensure coordinated support for improved infrastructure development," added Congressman Moylan.

Congressman Moylan pledged continued support for strengthening Guam's role in national defense and ensuring that local service members receive the resources, training, and support they need to meet the mission. His office will continue working closely with military leadership and congressional partners to ensure Guam is at the forefront of national defense planning.
