Sept. 24, 2026, New York, NY -- ASCAP (The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers) President and Chairman of the Board Paul Williams announced today that Jim Selby has been elected as a publisher member to the ASCAP Board of Directors. ASCAP is the only US performing rights organization that is founded and governed by a member-elected board of songwriter, composer and publisher members.
Williams commented: "The ASCAP Board cares deeply about making decisions that are in the best interests of the membership as a whole. As a global publishing leader, Jim has the expertise to tackle the complex issues facing music creators and publishers in today's market, from both the challenges and opportunities of AI to licensees who want to pay songwriters less. He will be an invaluable voice on the ASCAP Board in our mission to advocate for and protect our more than one million members."
Jim Selby is President, Global Music Publishing at BMG, leading the company's worldwide music publishing.
Selby assumed the role following the combination of Concord and BMG, having played a central leadership role in bringing together the two companies' global publishing businesses. As part of the integration, he helped shape the strategy, organizational structure and leadership model for the combined publishing organization, bringing together teams and operations across North America, the United Kingdom, Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific.
Prior to becoming President, Global Music Publishing at BMG, Selby served as Chief Publishing Officer of Concord, where he led Concord Music Publishing's global operations and strategy and oversaw a business representing many of the world's most important songwriters, composers and music catalogs. He ascended to that role after holding several other senior leadership positions at Concord, including General Manager Record Labels, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Revenue Officer.
As President, Global Music Publishing at BMG, Selby is responsible for leading the next phase of the company's publishing strategy. His focus is on growing BMG's global roster and catalog, strengthening its creative presence in key music markets, expanding opportunities for songwriters and composers, and ensuring that the company combines global scale with a highly personal approach to creator and client service.
Prior to Concord, Selby held senior executive positions across the music industry, including serving as CEO and General Manager of Naxos of America. Throughout his career, he has worked at the intersection of creative leadership, commercial strategy, operations and technology, with a consistent focus on building businesses that create long-term value for music creators and rights holders.
Selby is a former Chairman of the A2IM Board of Directors and currently serves on the NMPA Executive Board as well as the CMRRA CPC board and ICMP Board, where he helps shape policy and strategy on issues impacting music publishers and songwriters worldwide.
About ASCAP
The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) is a membership association of more than 1.1 million songwriters, composers and music publishers, and represents some of the world's most talented music creators. Founded and governed by songwriters, composers and publishers, it returns nearly 90 cents of every dollar collected to its members as royalties and has the lowest overhead rate of any U.S. PRO. In 2025, ASCAP reported record-high financial results of $1.945 billion in revenues and $1.759 billion available in royalty distribution monies to its members. Over the last ten years, ASCAP has delivered a 6.7% compound annual growth rate for total revenues, and a 7.3% compound annual growth rate for total royalty distributions to members. ASCAP licenses a repertory of over 20 million musical works to hundreds of thousands of businesses that use music, including streaming services, cable television, radio and satellite radio and brick and mortar businesses such as retail stores, hotels, clubs, restaurants and bars. ASCAP collects the licensing fees, and identifies, matches, processes and pays royalties to its members for trillions of performances every year. The ASCAP blanket license offers an efficient solution for businesses to legally perform ASCAP music while respecting the right of songwriters and composers to be paid fairly. ASCAP puts music creators first, advocating for their rights and the value of music on Capitol Hill, driving innovation that moves the industry forward, building community and providing the resources and support that creators need to succeed in their careers.
