Small Business Saturday to Kick Off Free Parking at Municipal Lots and Meters

WORCESTER, Mass. - The City of Worcester announced Friday free parking opportunities, which will kick off on Small Business Saturday, Nov. 29 to support the local business economy and cultural festivities.

Starting on Small Business Saturday, complimentary parking will be available at all on-street metered parking zones and the municipal surface lots located at 40 Highland St., 96 Green St., 85 Water St., 51 Millbury St. and the McGrath (Worcester Public Library) lot on Salem Street every Saturday from Nov. 29 to Dec. 27. On-street meters, as always, continue to be free every Sunday.

For every $1 that is spent with local small businesses, studies show that about 70 cents stay local. When Worcester residents shop locally, they create a multiplier effect supporting the local business community, local employees, and an entire supply chain of local distributors. The city is full of independent retailers, artisans, makers, boutique markets, restaurants, and event organizers offering a wide variety of goods and services, along with many local entertainment attractions offering family-friendly fun throughout the year.

"We encourage the community to be intentional with their holiday shopping this season and support our Worcester small businesses," said City Manager Eric D. Batista. "There are many opportunities to support local vendors, makers, and businesses throughout the community over the next month, and all year long."

Great resources to find upcoming events and holiday vendor markets throughout the city to take advantage of include Discover Central Massachusetts and the Worcester Cultural Coalition .
