Barbara Faircloth, a telecommunicator for Campus Safety at Campbell University, was honored with the Cherished Camel Award for her dedication to making the campus a safer place for students to thrive.
In her role, Faircloth directs Campus Safety officers during their shifts to calls for service or for emergencies. She recently spent numerous hours - in addition to her daily tasks - collecting data on all Blue Light emergency telephones after some were inoperable due to inclement weather last winter.
"She was determined to ensure a comprehensive listing of each telephone was compiled and accompanied with detailed documentation as to exactly what the problem with each telephone was," said Campus Safety Officer Gregory Franklin, who nominated her for the award. "She also noted the emergency telephones that were operating normally along with every telephone's exact location. This was a monumental task, and I strongly recommend Mrs. Faircloth for distinguished recognition of her many accomplishments for the Campbell community.
"She is indeed a treasure deserving of admiration and respect for her loyalty to the safety of our community."
The Cherished Camel Award was launched in 2025 by President William M. Downs to regularly honor Campbell staff for exceptional performance, daily dedication and initiative. Each recipient receives a $100 gift card, a certificate, and perhaps most importantly, campus-wide recognition for their contributions.
According to Franklin, Faircloth sets the tone for Campus Safety officers and handles all incoming calls and outgoing calls to the sheriff's department and fire department professionally.
"The most important mission for Campus Safety is to ensure students can obtain an education in a safe, quiet environment. Barbara Faircloth has always made the students her No. 1 priority," he said. "When a call comes in, she takes it very seriously. Her primary focus is getting the right resources to the student, faculty or staff member as quickly as possible."
