Howell, Mich. - Congressman Tom Barrett (MI-07) today joined Vice President JD Vance and Labor Secretary Lori Chavez DeRemer at Hatch Stamping Company's Howell welding plant to meet with local manufacturing workers and celebrate the tax relief Republicans delivered this summer for working families and small businesses.
Hatch Stamping, a Michigan-based manufacturer specializing in precision metal stamping and other metalworking processes, supplies parts for 95% of automobiles manufactured in North America. In their remarks, Barrett and Vance highlighted how the new tax relief will lower costs for workers and boost manufacturing.
"We wanted to deliver for the working families of America and I'm proud to be able to say we did that." said Barrett. "We staved off the largest tax increase in American history by extending the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act to allow you to keep more of your own money and decide how you're going to spend it. We also permanently increased the Child Tax Credit so that raising a family will be more affordable in America today. We eliminated taxes on tips and overtime so the hardest working people have the most to gain from this."
"First of all, you guys are lucky to have a great Congressman who fights for people in the state of Michigan, Tom Barrett," said Vance. "We talk a lot about the working family tax cuts, we talk about no taxes on overtime, which we were proud to deliver, no taxes on tips, which we were proud to deliver, the lowest taxes that we've had in this country in a very long time, because Tom Barrett went to Washington and fought for the people of this district."
Thanks to the Working Families Tax Cuts, the typical Michigan family of four will see up to $9,900 morein take-home pay. The law permanently extended the 2017 income tax cuts for workers and small businesses, removed tax on tips and overtime, increased the Child Tax Credit to $2,200, and expanded the deduction for seniors on Social Security.
This historic legislation is a huge boost for mid-Michigan manufacturers; the permanent extension of the 2017 tax cuts alone protects 12,000 manufacturing jobsin Michigan's 7th Congressional District. The law also specifically supports Michigan's auto industry and reduces costs for Michigan families by allowing car buyers to deduct auto loan interest on new, American-made vehicles.
