Dear Adelphi Community,
Joining a student organization at Adelphi University should be a positive, growth-oriented experience-one grounded in respect, safety, and belonging. To reinforce these values and meet new federal requirements, Adelphi updated its Anti-Hazing Policy in June 2025 in alignment with the federal Stop Campus Hazing Act (under the Clery Act). As part of this continued commitment to transparency and accountability, we are publishing our first Campus Hazing Transparency Report to ensure that students and families have access to clear, accurate information that supports safe and informed participation in campus organizations.
While our policy defines hazing, this report serves as a public log of substantiated incidents in which established or recognized student organizations were found responsible for violations. It includes:
The organization's name and the nature of the violation.
Specific findings, including whether alcohol or drugs were involved.
Disciplinary sanctions and key dates of the investigation and adjudication (finding of responsibility).
The report is updated every December and June and can be viewed on Adelphi's Stop Campus Hazing web page.
July 1, 2025 to December 23, 2025: No incidents of hazing that resulted in investigation and adjudication were reported during this period.
January 1, 2025 to June 30, 2025: No incidents of hazing that resulted in investigation and adjudication were reported during this period.
Adelphi opposes hazing in any form. We remind all students, faculty, and staff that our Anti-Hazing Policy applies to all student organizations, whether officially recognized or not. Violations of this policy carry severe consequences under both the Adelphi Student Code of Conduct and New York Penal Law (Sections 120.16 and 120.17), ranging from University expulsion to criminal imprisonment.
Beginning in 2026, hazing statistics will also be included in Adelphi's Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASFSR), published each year by October 1. While both reports address hazing, they serve different purposes and follow distinct federal reporting standards. The ASFSR provides a broad, anonymous statistical count of all reported hazing allegations occurring within Clery-defined geography, regardless of outcome. In contrast, the Campus Hazing Transparency Report is a publicly detailed log of only substantiated findings of responsibility involving recognized student organizations. As a result, ASFSR figures may be higher, reflecting its broader scope of reported activity.
We strongly encourage timely reporting to the appropriate authorities through the following channels:
Public Safety: Report hazing by visiting our office on the first floor of Levermore Hall or calling 516.877.3511 (24/7). Reports are shared with Student Conduct and Community Standards.
Student Conduct and Community Standards: Visit Levermore Hall, room 208, call 516.877.3612 (Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) or email [email protected]. Reports are shared with Public Safety.
Online Reporting: Submit reports via the University's online reporting form, selecting "Hazing" as the main issue. Providing as much detail as possible will help us respond effectively. These reports can be submitted anonymously.
Thank you for helping us create a safe, hazing-free campus and ensuring that every student's journey at Adelphi is defined by positive connections and a welcoming community.
