International Operational Dialogue was held in Finland

Operational Dialogue, an international event in the functional field of operations assembled personnel from NATO member States to the Defence Command Finland from 7 to 8 November 2024 in Helsinki.

The theme of Operational Dialogue 2024 was the security situation of the Baltic Sea Region and its special characteristics as an operating environment. In addition to topics following the theme, discussions covered broad-spectrum influencing and countering it, and possibilities of international cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region. As a part of the programme, the guests were also familiarized with the Navy's equipment, which illustrated in practice the operational capabilities in the region.

The event was attended by 16 chiefs of operations and other commanders in the functional field of operations from NATO commands and member states. The event was hosted by Deputy Chief of Staff Operations, Lieutenant General Kari Nisula. He assessed the importance of Operational Dialogue 2024 from the perspective of the cooperation between Finland and the Allies:

- It is clear that Finland's role in maintaining and promoting security in the Baltic Sea Region is very important indeed. However, conducting planning or activities only nationally is not enough. The security of the Baltic Sea Region calls for joint commitment and close and constantly developing international cooperation.

- The event provided an excellent opportunity to discuss topical issues, share best practices and deepen cooperation even more. We Finns possess strong know-how in the domain of the Baltic Sea, and we can share best practices to our Allies. Reciprocally, we can learn from them and strengthen both our own and mutual ability to respond to any changes in the security environment. The activeness of the participants proved that we have common goals, Lieutenant General Nisula continues.

The event organized in Finland was the third Operational Dialogue ever held. The previous Operational Dialogues were held in Poland and Germany.
