Council on Foundations Welcomes Samuel Bressi to Board of Directors

Thursday, January 9, 2025

Srik Gopal, Galen Maness, Jay Williams appointed to second term on board

WASHINGTON - The Council on Foundations announced that its membership has approved the appointment of Samuel Bressi, president and CEO of Lancaster County Community Foundation, to its board of directors. Appointed to their second terms were Srik Gopal, president and managing partner of Humanity United; Galen Maness, chief operating officer of the San Francisco Foundation; and Jay Williams, president and CEO of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving. Gopal will continue in his role as board secretary, and Williams will serve as the new board chair.

Bressi has led the Lancaster County Community Foundation since 2008, guiding it to increased innovation through early-stage venture grants and leadership on building community equity and connecting and collaborating across differences. Bressi has chaired the boards of directors of the National Association of Health Education Centers, Lancaster County Estate Planning Council, and Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations, bringing 30 years of executive leadership to the Council.

"I'm honored to be joining the Council's board of directors," Bressi said. "The Council has played a crucial role in my development, and many of our successful strategies, projects, and community initiatives came from ideas sparked through Council networks. I'm excited to give something back to an organization that has given me and the Lancaster County Community Foundation so much. My hope is that I can contribute to the Council's efforts to expand philanthropy's role in community leadership and in doing so strengthen communities across the nation."

"We're thrilled to have Sam join our board and look forward to more of the leadership that he's already shown through his partnership with the Council, including his guidance on our Building Together 2024 Working Group, said Kathleen Enright, the Council's president and CEO.

In addition to Williams serving as the new board chair and Gopal serving as board secretary, the full slate of board officers includes Jennifer Ford Reedy, president of the Bush Foundation, as vice chair, and Mae Hong, vice president of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, as treasurer.

Members of the Council's board of directors represent a diverse range of expertise, personal demographics, experiences, philanthropic institutions, and geographic locations. Collectively the board guides the implementation of the Council's strategic vision and partners with the president and CEO to ensure that the Council's work is values-driven and member-informed.
