Best Paper Award for the ES3 research group

The ES3 research group of the Department of Information Engineering received the prestigious "Domenico Grimaldi" Best Paper Award at the IEEE International Symposium on Measurement in Networking and Communications 2026 (IEEE MNC 2026), held in Naples from July 13 to 16. Among the award winners are Professors Paolo Ferrari and Emiliano Sisinni, who developed the research in close collaboration with an international team of researchers. The awarded research, titled "Enabling IEEE 1451 Smart Transducer Interface over LoRaWAN," addresses a crucial challenge in the Internet of Things (IoT): bridging the gap between standardized smart sensor interfaces and low-power wide area networks (LPWANs). By successfully porting the IEEE 1451 standard to the LoRaWAN infrastructure, the research introduces significant advances in interoperability between different systems. This important milestone is the result of a transnational research project funded through the "Starting Tech Transfer Grant" call by the UNITA - Universitas Montium consortium, which saw the University of Brescia and the Universidade de Beira Interior cooperate in synergy.
