Enforcement and Compliance Division (ECD) K-9 Officer Pueblo, a Czech shepherd, passed away on Oct. 26 due to a health and emergency medical procedure. He was eight years old.
Pueblo was born on May 27, 2016 in the Czech Republic. He came to Phoenix in December 2017 and was first assigned to ECD Officer Jerrad Nutt in October 2018 at the Topock Port of Entry. He was assigned to ECD Sgt. Bill Murray in September 2019 at the Ehrenberg Port of Entry.
Pueblo remained with Murray until his passing, working together at all the state's ports of entry.
Pueblo was a detection canine, certified to detect marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and fentanyl. His largest drug bust apprehended 1,300 pounds of marijuana and 82 pounds of cocaine.
Pueblo's favorite treat was Wilderness Bites. His favorite activity was tug of war, plus chasing and playing with the cats at home.
"Pueblo was one of the original five canines in the ECD K-9 Unit and was the last of these canines to still be in service," said Capt. Jon Olney, who oversees the K-9 program at ADOT. "Pueblo was a goodnatured dog who loved to go to work and do his job. He will be greatly missed."
Thank you for your service, Pueblo. Rest in peace
