Warming Centers, Respite Locations and Stand-By Emergency Shelter are Open for Residents

With frigid temperatures in the forecast, the City of Detroit is opening an overnight shelter and operating daytime respite locations to provide relief from the cold.

The City of Detroit will activate an overnight shelter from Friday, Dec. 12 at 8 p.m. through Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 9 a.m. Residents can access this temporary shelter anytime by walking in, no referral needed, or by calling the Detroit Housing Resource HelpLine at 866-313-2520 operated 24/7.

Residents who are sleeping outside and need help may go to a police precinct any day after 6 p.m. or on the weekends and be connected with an outreach team for help with overnight services. You can find your nearest police precinct at detroitmi.gov/police.
