Residents and visitors are invited to experience one of Tuscaloosa's hidden gems at the Lake Nicol Paddle Fest this Saturday, July 18, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m at 4409 Nicol Park Road. Hosted by Tuscaloosa Water in partnership with Tuscaloosa Paddleboard, UA Outdoor Recreation and Mountain High Outfitters, the free event is part of the City of Tuscaloosa's celebration of National Lakes Appreciation Month.
Whether you're an experienced paddler or trying the sport for the first time, Paddle Fest offers an opportunity to experience Lake Nicol from the water. Open to kayakers and paddleboarders, participants can choose from:
Upon arrival, participants should park in designated parking areas and check-in at the tent located near the restrooms, beginning at 7:30 a.m. for paddle racers.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own paddleboard or kayak. All complementary rentals have been reserved in advance. If rental watercraft becomes available throughout the event, it will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis as it is returned.

Participants must be 15 years of age or older to participate without adult supervision. Anyone under 18 must be registered by a parent or legal guardian and have signed a waiver before participating.
For the safety of all participants, a personal floatation device (PFD) is highly encouraged while on the water. PFDs will be provided and required for participants using complementary rental equipment.
Registration is free but required. Spectators are encouraged to enjoy the event from the Lake Nicol Outer Cliff Trail, where they can watch paddlers navigate the course below. This event is rain or shine unless severe weather creates unsafe conditions. Registered participants will receive event updates, including any weather-related notifications, by email.
