SC State alumna, acclaimed television writer Sa'Rah Jones returns for Dream to Screen master class

ORANGEBURG, S.C. - South Carolina State University will welcome home alumna Sa'Rah L. Jones, an acclaimed television writer and producer whose work spans network television, streaming platforms and Lifetime Original Movies, for the Dream to Screen: Industry Insider's Master Class on Oct. 13-15, 2026.

A 1995 SC State graduate, Jones earned a Bachelor of Arts in professional English with a minor in broadcasting. During the three-day master class, she will share insights on storytelling, writing for television, producing, building a career in entertainment and navigating the evolving media landscape.

"Sa'Rah Jones exemplifies the creativity, excellence, and determination that define South Carolina State University graduates," said Dr. David Staten, associate provost for Academic Affairs. "Her return gives our students a rare opportunity to learn directly from an accomplished industry professional who began her journey right here at SC State."

Television and film career

Jones most recently served as a writer and co-producer on Netflix's multicamera comedy Act Your Age. Her television credits also include CBS' hit sitcom The Neighborhood, where she served as a writer and executive story editor, and Netflix's three-time NAACP Image Award-winning series Family Reunion, where she was a writer and story editor. She also wrote The Family Reunion Christmas Movie.

Her film work includes seven Lifetime Original Movies, including Double Double Trouble, Girl in the Closet and the Single Black Female franchise: Single Black Female, Single Black Female 2: Simone's Revenge and Single Black Female 3: The Final Chapter. Jones also served as co-executive producer on three of the films. Two additional Lifetime movies written by Jones are slated for release in 2027.

Connecting students with industry professionals

The Dream to Screen: Industry Insider's Master Class reflects SC State's commitment to connecting aspiring creatives with accomplished alumni and industry leaders who can illuminate pathways from the classroom to careers. Participants will gain firsthand perspectives on the discipline, preparation, resilience and professional relationships required to succeed in the entertainment industry.

Previous Dream to Screen master classes have featured entertainment professionals Richard Lawson, Laya DeLeon Hayes, Trey Haley and Jason Weaver. The series provides students access to professionals whose work and experiences can offer insight into careers in storytelling, production and the entertainment industry.

SC State alumni, members of the Orangeburg community and students from local colleges and universities are welcome to attend.

Jones is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. She was initiated through SC State's Alpha Xi Chapter and remains active with the Century City Alumnae Chapter in Los Angeles.
