As Tropical Storm Isaias strengthens and approaches the Gulf Coast, Global Medical Response (GMR), the nation's largest provider of integrated air and ground emergency medical services, is mobilizing emergency resources and operational assets to support communities, healthcare partners and first responders in the impacted area.
In coordination with the Florida Ambulance Association (FAA), GMR is helping facilitate the deployment of 100 ambulances to support response efforts, including advanced life support, basic life support, critical care and specialty transport capabilities provided by GMR and through a network of EMS partners. Personnel assigned to these resources have been identified and deployed to the Florida Panhandle, ensuring ambulances can be staffed and operational as the storm unfolds and response needs evolve.
GMR is also mobilizing emergency response assets from its national preparedness caches in Arlington, Texas, and DeKalb County, Georgia, including sleep trailers, generators, tent systems and command units that enable first responders to operate safely and effectively in the field during severe weather and a large-scale emergency.
"Severe weather can place tremendous strain on local emergency response systems at the very moment communities need them most," said Vice President and Chief of GMR's Office of Emergency Management, Phillip Mongeau. "By pre-positioning ambulances, clinicians and support resources ahead of the storm, leaders are ensuring that emergency medical services remain available throughout the response and recovery effort. Our teams are prepared to deploy wherever needed and support our partners in keeping critical care within reach of the communities they serve."
Beyond the EMS response efforts, GMR is also sending resources to assist healthcare partners in Florida with preparedness measures ahead of the storm, including support for patient movement operations designed to maintain continuity of care and keep patients safe as conditions evolve.
All of these efforts are supported by GMR's emergency response caches which are strategically located in parts of the country. The caches contain ambulances, communications equipment, medical supplies and operational support assets that can be rapidly deployed to any disaster zone in the country within hours, helping ensure communities have access to critical care when they need it most.
As conditions evolve in the Gulf, GMR remains prepared to adjust its response and deploy additional personnel, equipment and support resources to meet the needs of the impacted communities.
