Rosen’s Carson City Lands Bill Advances Out of Senate Committee

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen's (D-NV) Carson City Public Land Correction Act was passed by the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee with bipartisan support. This bill will help improve public lands management, support flood mitigation and outdoor recreation, and expand economic development opportunities in Carson City, Nevada.

As the state with the highest percentage of public land in the nation, Nevada relies on federal legislation to make land available for development, including affordable housing, and other public purposes, like flood and wildfire mitigation, storm water improvement, and recreation.

"As cities across Nevada continue to grow, we need to make sure that federal lands are being used in a way that best fits the needs of our growing local communities," said Senator Rosen. "I am thrilled that my Carson City Public Lands bill has passed committee and is one step closer to becoming law. It will ensure land is available for economic development, support infrastructure improvements, expand access to outdoor recreation, and direct funding to protect environmentally sensitive areas in Carson City. I'll keep pushing to pass it into law."

Senator Rosen has worked tirelessly to improve access to and protection of Nevada's public lands. She introduced the Truckee Meadows Public Lands Management Act, also known as the Washoe County Lands Bill, to expand economic development opportunities and make more land available for housing in Washoe County, support local Tribal communities, increase access to outdoor recreation, and protect public lands. Last month, Senator Rosen successfully pushed the Energy and Natural Resources Committee to hold a hearing on the Washoe County and Carson City public lands bills, highlighting the importance of federal legislation for Nevada's public lands. HerPershing County Economic Development and Conservation Act, which would expand protections for and improve the management of federal public lands in Pershing County and create new conservation and recreation opportunities, received a Senate hearing earlier this month.
