Body

Construction for the Via Lucero Wastewater Force Main Replacement Project is currently underway at State Street and N. Hope Avenue. Originally scheduled to start in May, the project experienced a delay in construction material delivery and was rescheduled. For the first two weeks, crews will be working night hours (8:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.) on Hope Avenue. Following this work, crews will transition to standard working hours (7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.). Please expect periodic traffic delays along the Via Lucero, Hope, and State Street neighborhoods.

Construction teams are installing a new, dual-pipe sewer system made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) between the Via Lucero Lift Station and the intersection of State Street and Hope Avenue. This system will replace an aging cast iron pipeline from the 1950s that has reached the end of its useful service life and is difficult to access due to its narrow easement location. Construction teams will also upgrade gravity sewer mains and manholes downstream of the new system.

This upgrade is designed to improve the reliability and long-term performance of the City's wastewater system.

Project improvements include several community benefits:

  • Reduce the risk of leaks and system failures
  • Increase reliability for today's wastewater demands
  • Provide better system monitoring and maintenance access
  • Allow repairs without service interruption

Construction is expected to be completed by December 2026.

We appreciate the community's patience as we upgrade the City's wastewater system.
