WASHINGTON, DC -This week, President Trump's first actions in office included mandates to rescind executive orders from Presidents Biden and Clinton that established or supported programs seeking to expand access to nature and the outdoors for disadvantaged communities. Federal agencies will be required to suspend diversity, equity and inclusion-related offices, activities, and referencesin public-facing materials, as well as environmental justice initiatives. This also includes placing federal workers associated with these activities on administrative leave and suspending their email and office access.

In response, Gerry Seavo James, Sierra Club Outdoors for All Deputy Campaign Director, released the following statement:

"The work these federal agencies and workers were doing ensured that money was going where need was highest, and areas that faced historic inequities were finally receiving due investment and fair treatment. Through a variety of initiatives that supported projects such as greening urban communities, transit upgrades and park facility improvements, public lands were being updated for modern uses so that more families and communities could enjoy our natural spaces to their full potential. It is disappointing to see this work targeted. Our parks and public lands unite us all, and that will continue to hold true regardless of what misguided actions this administration chooses to take."
