Amwins Global Risks Expands Worldwide Natural Catastrophe Facility for Renewable Energy Projects

Renewed facility increases available capacity to USD $50 million and broadens cover to all major natural catastrophe perils.

Amwins Global Risks has renewed and significantly expanded its specialist natural catastrophe facility, increasing available capacity to USD $50 million per placement, broadening cover to all major natural catastrophe perils and extending availability worldwide.

Originally developed to provide additional Severe Convective Storm (SCS) protection for renewable energy projects in the United States, the facility now provides excess catastrophe protection against earthquake, flood, wildfire, windstorm and other natural catastrophe perils for renewable energy assets, and associated transmission infrastructure, globally.

"Renewable energy projects are becoming larger, more valuable and increasingly exposed to a broader range of natural catastrophe risks," said Harry Downes, Director, Amwins Global Risks. "While Severe Convective Storm remains a significant concern in the United States, we're seeing growing demand for additional protection against wildfire, flood, earthquake and windstorm across other regions. Expanding the facility allows us to provide clients with greater flexibility and higher catastrophe limits wherever those exposures exist."

The facility provides additional catastrophe capacity above primary property and construction insurance programmes, helping renewable energy investors and developers bridge the gap between available market limits and total project values as assets continue to increase in scale, value and complexity.

The expansion also reflects changes in procurement across the renewable energy insurance market. As property insurance rates continue to soften, many project owners are reinvesting premium savings into higher catastrophe limits, while lenders and investors continue to seek stronger protection for increasingly valuable infrastructure assets.

"Primary insurers continue to provide substantial catastrophe capacity, but there can still be a meaningful difference between available cover and a project's total exposure," said Downes. "This facility helps clients close that gap and build greater resilience into their insurance programmes."

The enhanced facility forms part of Amwins' continued investment in specialist insurance solutions for the global renewable energy sector and can be accessed through the specialists in Amwins' Energy, Power & Infrastructure practice.
