Trump’s Economy is Tanking For Arkansans As August Job Report Numbers Disappoint, Unemployment Hits a Four-Year High

LITTLE ROCK- Today's jobs numbers showed one thing: Trump's economy is a complete disaster for Arkansans.

Only 22,000 jobs were added in August - well below expectations - including job losses in the manufacturing sector, which are now down 78,000 total for the year. The report also showed that jobs numbers were worse than we originally thought in the prior two months - June's number was revised down further to -13,000, the first month of negative job growth since 2020. The unemployment rate ticked up to 4.3%, the highest it's been since October 2021.

Working Arkansans everywhere are struggling under Trump's tanking economy.

In response, Arkansas Democrats Chair Col. Marcus Jones (Ret.) released the following statement:

"Let's be honest: Donald Trump lied to the faces of hardworking Arkansans when he promised an economic 'golden age.' Look at what's happening under Trump's failing economy: layoffs are mounting, Arkansas jobs are disappearing, and prices continue to skyrocket while billionaires are cashing in on his massive tax cuts.

Trump is sinking our economy through the mud with his billionaire-first agenda and dragging Arkansans down with it. Trump can try to mask it all he wants, but there's no denying the economic pain Arkansans are feeling as a result of his reckless, unaffordable agenda. From our farmers to our workers to our teachers, Arkansans deserve better."

Today's job numbers are the latest example of a string of data showing Trump's catastrophic economy:

  • A new report yesterday showed that employers cut over 85,000 jobs in August - the worst August since 2020 and aside from that, the worst since the Great Recession.
    • Nearly 900,000 jobs have been cut so far in 2025, up 66% from this point last year.
    • For the first time in years, there are more unemployed people than job openings, and the hiring rate has fallen to near its lowest level since 2013.
  • Manufacturing has contracted for six straight months, with factory orders down three of the last four months.
